Donald Strait was activated in 1940 while serving with the New Jersey National Guard. During World War II, he became a U.S. Army Air Forces DOUBLE ACE, credited with shooting down 13.5 enemy aircraft in aerial combat. After the war he transferred to the new U.S. Air Force as a member of the New Jersey National Guard, served in the Korean War, and retired in 1976 as a Major General.
